The Hoya 95mm Circular Polarizer Filter helps reduce reflections and glare by filtering light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface.
Light from the sun becomes naturally partially polarized due to the reflection of electrons off air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze.
A polarizing filter organizes and filters this directed polarized light perpendicular to the reflected light, allowing much of this light to be absorbed.
This results in a noticeable reduction of reflections and glare from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of the sky and foliage.
A circular polarizer differs from a linear polarizer only because it contains a quarter-wave plate in addition to the linear polarizing filter.
The addition of this quarter-wave plate is to circularize the linearly polarized light for the use of autofocus and exposure functions.
This filter is uncoated and has approximately 93% average light transmission. It is made from optical glass and precision aluminum alloy mountings.
