I quickly figured it out because I had a similar machine before and all these things work more or less the same way. But what should a first-time buyer do, go to a medium?

    Edit: It actually does have a battery, it's just rechargeable! So when you take it out of the packaging, it won't actually hold the settings, but the next day when it's charged, everything is fine! I have it unplugged almost all day and the clock works fine! If you learn how it works and get the hang of it, you can program it very quickly, as it has many buttons and the keys have a good feel to them.

    This specific timer does not have a battery to hold the settings (time and programming) when the power goes out!! So if it takes you 20 minutes to program it and then the power accidentally goes out, you will lose all the settings and have to reprogram it! I find it at least tragic and I wish I knew this before I bought it, because I definitely wouldn't have gotten it!! There are other timers available at similar prices with a battery that allow you to set the time and program them even when unplugged.
