The "Music Theory and Practice" is compatible with the current international literature and is adapted to the Greek reality. It is intended for the student or the music lover without prior theoretical training, who wishes to gain productive knowledge of the basic terms, symbols, concepts, and functions of music theory.
The series "Music Theory and Practice" consists of 3 volumes:
- Volume A: Theory
- Volumes B - C: Exercises
In chapters 1, 2 - 3, the fundamental elements that shape musical sound are examined: notes, rhythm, and expression. In chapters 4, 5, and 6, the relationships that develop between musical tones are examined: intervals, scales, and chords.
Special mention is made of the rules of musical notation, musical instruments are classified, and the scales of Greek traditional music are recorded. The methodology proposed by the author encourages the student to take one step at a time, to start study from the example, and to proceed to understand the concept from the theoretical text.
The two volumes of exercises contain numerous simple applications and creative problems, while activities for aural practice and composition are suggested.
