Description

Music education is divided into two branches: theory and practice.

In theory, the student is taught everything related to notation, durations, and principles that govern the relationships between sounds, in order to learn how to write music.

Practice deals with the performance of music, based on music reading (solfege).

The music theory we have written contains the necessary preliminary knowledge that music students should acquire. These basic knowledge comes from the development of music during the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries (classical and romantic periods), when the harmonic tonal system dominated in the West.

The book is divided into four parts:

  • The first part deals with the basic points of music notation and everything related to the duration of sounds.
  • The second part deals with the relationships between sounds.
  • The third part refers to the expression of music during performance and provides several musical terms as well as declarative points of expression notation.
  • The fourth part provides supplementary elements of notation for a better understanding of music writing and performance, as well as basic elements about musical instruments.
