The BMW M1 was produced by the well-known Bavarian car manufacturer between 1978 and 1981. It is characterized by a sporty design and features many racing car attributes, such as a longitudinal engine, a lightweight steel tube frame, and independent suspension on all wheels. It was developed and built to participate in Group 5 category races, achieving several victories. Subsequently, BMW decided to create a single-make championship called "BMW M1 ProCar." The cars that participated in the championship were equipped with a powerful 470 HP engine and were driven by many well-known figures from the Formula 1 world, such as Piquet, De Angelis, Pironi, and Lauda. The Procar championship was very popular and during this period received extensive media coverage. The championship was held for two years, with Niki Lauda winning in 1979 and Nelson Piquet the following year.
