The synthetic absorbable surgical suture PGA is chosen for use according to the patient's condition, the size of the wound and tissues, and the surgical experience and technique. After implantation of the suture, moderate local inflammation of the tissues occurs, characteristic of the reaction to a foreign body, followed by gradual encapsulation in fibrous connective tissue. This is followed by a gradual loss of strength and mass of the suture due to its absorption through the hydrolysis mechanism, during which the polymer is broken down into glycolic acid which is absorbed and metabolized from body to body.
