The grinder above is, in my opinion, the starting point for any home barista who wants to get serious about making a truly good espresso.
Coming from a De'Longhi grinder, I was genuinely shocked by the very first shot. I ground the coffee at setting 2 and the Sage Bambino was unable to push water through the portafilter. That’s when I realized... “we’re going to have a great time.” I had clearly moved up a level, because with my previous grinder, even at setting 1, you could still get coffee out. Here, things are truly on another level.
The grinder is a real tool. If you know what you’re doing, how to dial in properly, and you work with the right doses, you have nothing to envy from much more expensive options.
I don’t use it as a single-dose grinder, so I can’t really comment on retention. I make two coffees a day, so the coffee in the hopper doesn’t have time to lose its freshness. It is particularly quiet, and the precision of its settings is impressive. With even the slightest change (e.g. 1 mm on the adjustment knob), the grind can change by 1–2 seconds in extraction, which shows how precise it is.
Just one tip: budget about €25 extra to buy Eureka’s King Size Dial. I consider it almost essential, as it offers much greater precision in micro-adjustments, mainly for proper dial-in. Otherwise you’ll be chasing your tail, since the factory knob has no reference points.
Also, if you want to try a different blend, you can take notes of the grind setting you have now and return exactly to where you were before the next time, without having to dial in again.
If you’re thinking of investing seriously in home espresso, this is a purchase that is truly worth the money. It won’t just take you one step further; it will elevate you many levels in making coffee at home.
Remember: good coffee starts first with the grinder - and then with the coffee machine.

Ο παραπάνω μύλος είναι, κατά τη γνώμη μου, το σημείο εκκίνησης για κάθε home barista που θέλει να ασχοληθεί σοβαρά με την παρασκευή ενός πραγματικά καλού espresso.
Προερχόμενος από μύλο της De'Longhi, έπαθα πραγματικά σοκ από το πρώτο κιόλας shot. Έκοψα τον καφέ στη ρύθμιση 2 και η Sage Bambino αδυνατούσε να περάσει νερό μέσα από το portafilter. Εκεί κατάλαβα ότι... «θα περάσουμε πολύ καλά». Είχα πλέον ανέβει επίπεδο, καθώς με τον προηγούμενο μύλο, ακόμα και στη ρύθμιση 1, καφέ θα έβγαζες. Εδώ τα πράγματα είναι πραγματικά σε άλλο επίπεδο.
Ο μύλος είναι ένα πραγματικό εργαλείο. Αν γνωρίζεις τι κάνεις, πώς να κάνεις σωστό dial in και δουλεύεις με σωστές δοσολογίες, δεν έχεις να ζηλέψεις τίποτα από πολύ ακριβότερες λύσεις.
Δεν τον χρησιμοποιώ ως single dose, επομένως δεν μπορώ να εκφέρω άποψη για το retention. Φτιάχνω δύο καφέδες την ημέρα, οπότε ο καφές στο hopper δεν προλαβαίνει να χάσει τη φρεσκάδα του. Είναι ιδιαίτερα αθόρυβος και εντυπωσιάζει η ακρίβεια των ρυθμίσεών του. Μια την ελάχιστη μεταβολή ( πχ 1mm στο κομβιο ρύθμισης) το κόψιμο μπορεί να αλλάξει κατα 1-2 δευτερόλεπτα στην εκχύλιση, κάτι που δείχνει πόσο ακριβής είναι.
Μία μόνο συμβουλή: υπολογίστε περίπου 25€ επιπλέον για να αγοράσετε το King Size Dial της Eureka. Θεωρώ ότι είναι σχεδόν απαραίτητο, καθώς προσφέρει πολύ μεγαλύτερη ακρίβεια στις μικρορυθμίσεις κυρίως για το σωστό dial in. Διαφορετικά θα κυνηγάτε την ουρά σας καθώς δεν έχει reference points το εργοστασιακό.
Επίσης αν θέλετε να δοκιμάσετε ένα άλλο blend μπορείτε να κρατήσετε σημειώσεις για το κόψιμο που έχετε τώρα και να επιστρέψετε ακριβώς εκεί που βρισκόσασταν πριν την επόμενη φορά χωρίς να πρέπει να κάνετε dial in ξανά.
Αν σκέφτεστε να επενδύσετε σοβαρά στο home espresso, πρόκειται για μία αγορά που πραγματικά αξίζει τα χρήματά της. Δεν θα σας πάει απλώς ένα βήμα παραπάνω· θα σας ανεβάσει πολλά επίπεδα στην παρασκευή καφέ στο σπίτι.
Να θυμάστε ο καλός καφές ξεκινάει πρώτα από τον μύλο - και μετα απο την καφετιέρα.
