The monumental catalog 1821 Before and After: Greeks and Greece, Revolution and State is one of the most significant publications in recent years concerning modern Greece.
Luxurious documents and traces of everyday life during the pre-revolutionary period, war relics from the years of the Revolution, as well as written testimonies of every kind of administration of the Greeks, combined with works of urban and folk art from the early decades of the new state, coexist with artworks from the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries that testify to the echo and reception of the Revolution.
Together with the works from the co-organizing Banks, Organizations, and private collectors, the rich collections gathered by Antonis Benakis at the Museum he offered to the Greek nation are presented.
The entirety of these works creates a composition with profound content that captures the captivating past of modern Greeks and highlights the reasons for our existence, our resilience, and our journey: the positive elements that shaped modern Hellenism.
Co-publishers: Bank of Greece, National Bank of Greece, Alpha Bank.
