In the four years that passed from the Italian attack in October ’40 until the liberation in October ’44, the Greek struggle against the occupiers experienced many phases and various forms. From one day to the next, fighters who fought with a rifle in hand had to transform into dedicated workers of the hidden resistance battle.

However, there were fighters who throughout these years did not change either their lifestyle or their way of fighting: the Greek sailors. Whether leaving Greece with the few warships that remained, or later managing to escape from the enslaved homeland to continue the struggle, Greek sailors managed to add new pages of glory to the history of the Greek Navy.

As a symbol of this struggle, the history and actions of the destroyer Queen Olga can be considered. Through the accounts of Alfred Leontopoulos, Captain of Olga during the Greco-Italian War, the surviving crew members, and all available sources, the author Achilleas Kyrou reconstructs and brings to life the story of the legendary destroyer.
