Which military battles during the Revolution had adverse outcomes for the Greeks and what developments did they trigger? What were their consequences on the course of the common effort and what danger did they pose to the struggle for Independence? How are these specific defeats interpreted based on the political and military data of the time? Who were the protagonists of these battles and to what extent did their sacrifices take on symbolic dimensions? By answering these questions, the present study aims to present and interpret the military defeats during the National Uprising, from 1822 to 1826. In the national collective memory, the massacre of Chios, the destruction of Naousa, the battle of Peta, the death of Markos Botsaris at Kefalovryso, as well as the destruction of Kasos and Psara, hold iconic positions. Similarly, during Ibrahim's campaign, the memory of the defeat at Kremmidi, the capture of Sphacteria, the surrender of Neokastro, the death of Papaflessas at Maniaki, Ibrahim's invasion of Tripolitsa and Argos, the battle at Trikorfa, and finally the Exodus of Messolonghi, remains unextinguished over time. A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE SERIES The Greek Revolution is justifiably ranked among the great revolutions that marked the era of Modernity. The completion of two hundred years since its outbreak has understandably heightened the interest of modern Greeks to learn about its basic characteristics. This is also the aim of the series at hand. By crafting the portraits of four of the leading figures of the Greek Revolution (Theodoros Kolokotronis, Ioannis Kapodistrias, Petrobey Mavromichalis, Bouboulina) and analyzing four of the main themes related to it (1814-1821: The preparation of a revolution, Internal strife and conflicts, From the Massacre of Chios to the Exodus of Messolonghi, The Great Powers and the Revolution), it aspires to contribute to public history and the dialogue about the character and forms of the Greek Renaissance. The volumes of the series are authored by distinguished historians and expert scientists, following the rules of scientific research.

With this data, another attack was carried out during the moonless night of June 6 to 7 by two Greek fire ships, led respectively by Hydra native Andreas Pippinos and Psara native Konstantinos Kanaris. The attack, which also served as retaliation for the Chios massacre, resulted in a Greek victory as Kanaris set fire to the Ottoman flagship. Specifically, the Psara captain successfully led his fire ship to the Ottoman flagship, tied it to the vessel, and ignited the ship, which quickly spread to the flagship. Kanaris then jumped into his fire ship's boat, where his companions waited, and departed, witnessing with joy the explosion of the Ottoman flagship due to its burning gunpowder magazines. The explosion caused the death of 2,000 armed men as well as Admiral Kara Ali himself.
