Description

Description

An original illustrated "diary" on motherhood by the award-winning English illustrator Polly Dunbar: with humor, honesty, and tenderness, it captures the joy as well as the exhaustion and anxiety that every mother feels as her child grows.

"I've been writing and illustrating children's books since I graduated from art school, but I never thought to paint something for adults until I had my children. I didn't want all those hilarious and beautiful moments of their childhood to be lost as if swept away by the wind. I felt that the only way to capture them was through hasty sketches, something like a picture diary, if you will. These sketches were mostly done incredibly early in the morning, with a coffee in one hand, my sketchbook on my lap, with the boys climbing on me and 'borrowing' my pencils."

I hope that, aside from the complete exhaustion and absolute chaos that characterize motherhood, I was able to depict a part of the magic of this entire period.

This book is for you if...

  • Do you want to cultivate your child's emotional intelligence
  • Are you looking for a calm, reassuring read for bedtime or cuddle time
  • Do you want to show your child how much you love them – without teaching, just with emotion
  • Do you appreciate well-crafted, illustrated books that appeal to both children and adults

What will this book offer you?

A tender reading experience that strengthens the parent–child relationship. Through simple phrases and expressive images, it will help your child recognize and express their feelings, while you will be reminded of the power of maternal presence and acceptance.

Inside the book you will find:

  • A wordless dialogue between the child and their mother
  • Moments of despair, disappointment, need – and the answer of love
  • Illustrations that speak through the silences
  • A child’s voice that feels, gets angry, rejoices – and in the end says “Hello mom”… with all their heart

The opinion of the experts

“A book that every mom will recognize, and every child will feel is their own.”

– BookTrust UK

“Simple, touching, and true. It speaks about the most important thing in the world: connection.”
