A router requires a separate modem and distributes the connection to multiple devices via Wi-Fi or Ethernet, but cannot connect directly to the internet.     Το EdgeRouter Lite απευθύνεται σε χρήστες με καλή γνώση δικτύων. Οι δυνατότητες που έχει είναι μεγάλες σε πολύ προσιτή τιμή. Το EdgeRouter Lite βασίζεται στο Vyatta και χρησιμοποιεί linux στη βάση του. Υποστηρίζει τα πλείστα δικτυακά πρωτόκολλα και παρέχει μεγάλες δυνατότητες παραμετροποίησης.

    Απευθύνεται σε χρήστες που θέλουν να έχουν ένα Cisco αλλά δεν θέλουν να πληρώσουν μια περιουσία για να το αποκτήσουν. Η παραμετροποίηση γίνεται κυρίως μέσω command line αλλά οι βασικές ρυθμίσεις μπορούν να γίνουν και μέσω browser. Η ισχύς του είναι άριστη και καταφέρνει να επεξεργαστεί εκατοντάδες Mbps χωρίς πρόβλημα.
