Description

In 1993 and 1995, Elli Pappa submitted two of her texts to the Historical Archives of the Benaki Museum, stipulating that they be published only after her death. The first text was a 52-page typewritten document titled "The Ploumpidis Case," and the second was a collection of texts (totaling 108 pages) consisting of: a preface titled "A Few Words," an autobiographical text, a series of her articles in the newspapers "Avgi" and "Nea" titled "Appendix," a text titled "Letters to My Son," and a handwritten letter from Nikos Ploumpidis to her dated 4. V. 52.

The Foundation, in response to the donor's wish, began preparing the publication after her death in October 2009, and today presents to the Greek reading public the entirety of this testimony, unaltered and without interventions.

"Anyone interested in reading this text should not believe that they will find an autobiography. Undoubtedly, what I write concerns me, my life, and my experiences, but I strictly limit myself (as much as I could and as much as I managed) to a category of experiences: those concerning my position in the KKE and the adventures of our mutual relationship.

[...] I focused on these experiences, and I tried to convey them in my text, which I submit to the Archive of the Benaki Museum with the hope that it might be of some use. The change in operational methods, decision-making, and implementation, and the respect for fighters are now fundamental needs for the Left in our country, especially after the harsh experiences of the collapse of "real socialism." The question is whether these needs—or historical necessities—have become common consciousness in all the parties of the Left, particularly the communist movement.

This is also the reason that motivated me to submit my own testimonies (not to mention the sufferings) about what (certainly not all) I saw, knew, and suffered within the movement to which we dedicated our lives—without rewards and "cash-ins."
