Description

Description

iPad Pro features Apple's powerful M1 processor for breakthrough performance and all-day battery life. It features a stunning Liquid Retina XDR 12.9-inch display for viewing or editing photos and HDR video.

Cellular models offer 5G speed support for network data connectivity.

Meanwhile, the front camera with Center Stage feature recognizes you and keeps you in the frame automatically during your video calls.

The fifth-generation iPad Pro 12.9 is primarily aimed at professionals and content creators, such as artists, photographers, designers, architects and engineers, who need a powerful and multifunctional tablet for their work. It is also aimed at demanding users looking for the best performance and user experience from a tablet.

iPad Pro and M1, the perfect duo

Thanks to the M1 chip, iPad Pro is a blazing fast device that uses advanced image signal processing technology and M1's unified memory architecture. With an octa-core processor and fast graphics, you can build complex AR models and play games with console-level graphics and high refresh rates.

At the same time, it manages to be thin and lightweight so you can carry it everywhere with you without worry, thanks to its long-lasting battery.

Liquid Retina XDR Display

The Liquid Retina XDR display guarantees you highly realistic detail thanks to 1,000,000:1 contrast for an immersive viewing experience! It features HDR photo and video editing and let you enjoy your favorite movies to the fullest. With 1000 nits of brightness and 1600 nits of maximum brightness, as well as advanced display technologies such as P3 color gamut, True Tone and ProMotion technology, watch highly responsive and smooth graphics.

Mini-LEDs

The iPad Pro is the company's first device with mini-LED technology to deliver extremely high brightness, as they are 120 times smaller than the previous generation of LEDs. With over 10,000 mini-LEDs allowing the device to be even thinner with a thickness of only 6.4 mm.

Ultra Wide Camera with Center Stage

iPad Pro features a new Ultra Wide camera with a 12MP sensor and 122-degree field of view, making it perfect for FaceTime and the new Center Stage feature to always "center" the speaker even if they're moving around the room.

With center stage technology and machine learning you can move freely as the camera focus automatically moves to keep you in the center of the screen. When others join or leave the call, the view expands or zooms in automatically.

Center Stage works with FaceTime and other video conferencing apps for an even more immersive experience.

LiDAR

The LiDAR Scanner measures how long it takes light to reflect back from objects, so it can create a depth map of any space you're in and unlock immersive AR Experiences. And it works with the powerful ISP to more accurately focus images and videos in low-light conditions and reduce capture time.

Thunderbolt, for powerful creative workflows.

Now with Thunderbolt, this is the fastest, most versatile port ever on iPad. It works with existing USB-C connectors and opens up and extensive ecosystem of high-performance accessories for iPad Pro, like fast external storage, displays, and docks. Transfer huge assets or even drive with the Pro Display XDR at full 6K resolution.

Accessories for the iPad Pro

Apple Pencil, Magic Keyboard and Smart Keyboard Folio open up even more ways to use iPad Pro. These versatile accessories are designed to take your work and creativity to the next level.

I use it professionally for designs in Procreate, Adobe programs, and other design programs (Affinity Designer, Tayasui Sketches, Paper, Bamboo Paper) and it's perfect. The screen size is large, so if you're going to use the iPad for simple tasks (e.g. just browsing pages, Facebook, etc.), it won't be convenient for you.

Personally, even if the screen size becomes even larger in the future, I would gladly buy a 15" iPad. I don't care about its portability; I only want it for drawing. However, it is lightweight for traveling.

If you're not interested in something like that, try the 11" model or even the simpler one (iPad Air) so that you can hold it more easily in your hands.

I would advise you to definitely buy a case to protect it and a stand to support it on your desk. If you're using it for drawing, I recommend a stand with adjustable tilt to make drawing easier.

256GB is enough for me, as I always transfer the files I'm interested in to Dropbox and then to my computer and external backup drives.

-The only thing that confused me as a user of other iPads is the keyboard layout; it takes a little time to get used to.

It is a fantastic machine. With the stylus, it is amazing. It is quite expensive, but whether we like it or not, it is worth the money with the processing power it offers. I use it just like my previous iPad, mainly for professional purposes, CAD and 3D programs, and it is on another level. I have replaced my laptop. It needs additional software, but it is worth it in terms of space and portability. It definitely needs a case, which can also serve as a stand. It is too big to hold in your hand. The screen is from another galaxy. The speakers too. I have nothing negative to say. It also has handwriting recognition in Greek, with an application from the AppStore. However, do not get it if you do not want to work on it. Not necessarily heavy work, but if you just want a tablet for watching videos, internet, and music, it is not worth spending so much money, unless you have it and do not care. Incredibly powerful though. Very satisfied.

After a month of thorough thought and after managing to sell the iPad Pro 12.9 2018 256 4G Space Grey that I had, I was one of the lucky ones who acquired the new iPad Pro 12.9 256 5G 5th generation from the very first day of its unofficial release in Greece. The differences from the (very good) 2018 model are obvious. The first reason for the upgrade is the magic of the mini-LED display, which stands out even in everyday, simple activities (Safari, notes, drawing, photos) without needing to see it in HDR content. The black level is now at a higher level and the colors are more vivid in all applications. The device has a smoother feel, while in some cases its extra power is noticeable, opening apps more smoothly. Personally, I have not experienced any blooming phenomena.
The second reason that pushed me to upgrade was the M1 processor. For someone for whom the iPad Pro is the main device used, it is quite tempting to have the feeling of a computer-class processor, with 8 performance cores, 8 graphics cores and 8GB of RAM, the same as the base MacBook Pro 13 and MacBook Air!
The third reason, but equally important, was the fact that the design did not change, something that allows me to use the Magic Keyboard I have from last year, as well as the excellent ESR magnetic case (there are my reviews on these products on Skroutz). It should be noted that although I use the Spigen iPad Pro 12.9 screen protector on the display, the Magic Keyboard closes well, with minimal effort. However, it does not close with the Pitaka case, which can be adjusted as much as possible and made functional with the Magic Keyboard open.
For these reasons, I chose to upgrade from the iPad Pro 12.9 2018, in order to have a functional device that has now been elevated to a computer and will serve me in all my activities for more than 5 years.
The 4 stars are for its high price.
However, for me personally, it remains the top and most useful hybrid device worldwide, since it combines tablet features, an ultraportable computer in combination with the Magic Keyboard, and a canvas for notes/drawing. In other words, it starts as a portable tablet, becomes a practical netbook, and turns into a portable 13-inch computer.
In the Apple ecosystem, it is my main device. Personally, I have been an Apple customer since the iPad.
The Center Stage function as well as the performance of the front camera are among its impressive features. However, even the 2018 and 2020 models are absolute technological achievements and, especially now that they are at good prices, they are a bargain.
In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend it if you intend to use it in a hybrid way, like I do. If you have the 2018 model and have the ability to pay the difference, it is worth it - although you will have difficulty selling it at the right price relative to its current value, given that the Greek market has not yet absorbed the culture of these devices. If you have the 2020, there are fewer reasons to upgrade.
Although Apple's WWDC event did not reveal the desired upgrades in apps and usability, with the software capabilities of the new iPadOS, one can enjoy the iPad Pro 12.9 5th gen in the small everyday things it does to the highest degree!

  • I use it professionally for designs in Procreate, Adobe programs, and other design programs (Affinity Designer, Tayasui Sketches, Paper, Bamboo Paper) and it's perfect.

  • It is a fantastic machine.

  • After a month of thorough thought and after managing to sell the iPad Pro 12.9 2018 256 4G Space Grey that I had, I was one of the lucky ones who acquired the new iPad Pro 12.9 256 5G 5th generation from the very first day of its unofficial release in Greece.
