The 19th Congress of the Association of Greek Commercial Lawyers on the theme `Commercial Law and the Economic Crisis` took place from October 23 to 25, 2009, in Heraklion, Crete.

Initially, in the section of general presentations, Professors P. Gemtos and F. Doris presented their papers titled `Economic Crises and Law` and `The Evolution of Commercial Contracts in Times of Economic Crisis`, respectively.

In the second section, delegates discussed issues of bankruptcy law and competition law amid the economic crisis. Specifically, G. Michalopoulos presented measures from bankruptcy law to address the business crisis, G. Orphanidis elaborated on protective measures that can be taken during the bankruptcy process under the new Bankruptcy Code, S. Bazinas presented a paper on `Commercial Securities and the Economic Crisis: UNCITRAL Legislative Guide on Secured Transactions`, while D. Tzoyganatos analyzed issues of business concentrations during times of economic crisis, emphasizing `restructuring concentrations`. Finally, in this section, D. Schoinas discussed the issue of state aid to businesses or sectors affected by the economic crisis from the perspective of competition law.

In the third section of the congress, presentations took place regarding the economic crisis and its impact on the financial sector. G. Iatrakis presented a paper titled `The Nominalist Principle in Times of Economic Crisis`, while at the subsequent Round Table, B. Christianos, A. Gavriilidis, S. Psychomanis, and D. Liappis raised issues of liability for banks and supervisory authorities towards depositors and investors amid the economic crisis.

In the fourth section of the congress, which analyzed corporate law issues in relation to the economic crisis, presentations were made by G. Sotiropoulos `Economic Crisis and Corporate Governance`, B. Antonopoulos, `Compensation of Corporate Governance Members, Bonuses, Stock Options, and the International Economic Crisis`, G. Lekkas `Corporate Financing Methods, particularly Securitization, and the Economic Crisis`, and G. Triantafyllakis `Liability for Causing Insolvency - Corporate and Bankruptcy Law`. Interventions were made by M. Varelas, I. Kalatzakou - Tzatsaroni, E. Kotsiri, A. Spiridon, and Ch. Chrysanthos.

The congress concluded with the presentation of its conclusions by E. Perakis.
