This book traces the emergence, evolution, and application of the tenets of the ideological and political movement that led to the most significant reform in Greece during the post-Venizelos era.
The shareholders of this movement sought, and largely achieved, a dynamic reconfiguration of Greek public life: developmental state intervention in the economy, industrialization, increased national income, rational economic management, expansion of social justice through equality of opportunity and enhancement of social mobility, institutional reform, overcoming the recurrent divisions, and a new legitimization of the political and social system.
The post-war economic development, the establishment of a modern democracy, and full participation in the movement for European integration were essential successes of this particular political conception, targeting, and methodology.
