Description

Description

This book is the result of a long-term effort by the author to organize the subject of systematic analysis of chemical processes into a teaching manual for undergraduate level.

The book presents a systematic approach to mass and energy balances. This subject is taught in the early years of Chemical Engineering studies, with the aim of applying basic knowledge of thermodynamics to small, often unrealistic applications.

The construction of mass and energy balances in realistic flow diagrams requires a systematic approach in defining and solving these problems. The purpose of this book is to present such a unified and systematic approach.

The book is divided into three main parts. In the first part (Chapters 1, 2, 3, and 4), basic knowledge and computational tools from thermodynamics are presented, which form the foundation for the correct application of mass and energy balances in chemical processes.

In the second part (Chapters 5, 6, and 7), the basic systematic methodology for the analysis of processes in steady-state operation is presented.

In the third part (Chapters 8 and 9), the extension of the methodology from the second part to the analysis of dynamic systems is presented. Chapters 1 to 7 can form the core of an undergraduate course in process analysis.
