Cognitive tools represent the most effective approach for the pedagogical use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Cognitive tools are applications and technologies that are created or modified and used by the student to represent their knowledge, engaging them necessarily in meaningful processes of critical thinking and higher cognitive functions.

Cognitive tools are integrated into a comprehensive learning framework defined by teaching scenarios, which include the overall organization and management of the lesson as well as teaching plans with learning activities.
