Description

The Eleusinian Mysteries, dedicated to Demeter and Dionysus, are a religious practice passed down from Demeter herself to humanity, revealing to them the path (progress) of the mind, which constitutes the essence of the soul within matter, its remaining there in a cycle of incarnations, alternating between life and death (alone), and ultimately its return to the Origin, from which it emerges (return), which implies the essence of humanity and the immortality of the soul.

In the sacred ceremonies of Eleusis, the initiates became "completed," experiencing transcendence over death. Dionysus-Iakchos, the leader of the Mysteries, oversees this divine journey of the soul, which descends into our Underworld (Persephone) and cares for its essence (Kore). Whoever is initiated into his Mysteries, as Pindar says, knows the end of life-death and the beginning of life, the divine gift: "he knows both the end of life, and knows the origin." He undertook an oath not to reveal it under penalty of death.

The Mysteries had a moral-formative dimension and made those initiated in them virtuous and better in every respect: "in every way improving themselves." This book provides an etymological interpretation of coded names, words, and phrases, such as those said in the "overseeing," the second degree of initiation, in an effort for a philosophical approach to the processes of nature, paralleling them with those of the soul.

The entire journey of the Sacred Way and the significant stops of the procession of Iakchos correspond to the objective journey of the soul in matter. Topics such as the lament and laughter of the Gods, bronze as the metal of demons, the sacred symbols of the ear of wheat and the poppy, and their mysterious symbolism, as well as the serpents of Demeter's dragon-chariot, which are given to Triptolemus, are also discussed, along with how they reflect the latest theories of Quantum Physics regarding electromagnetism and the creation of mass.

The Sanctuary of Eleusis fell silent with the advance of the new religion, and as Nestorius, the last Eumolpid Hierophant, said, this was "the beginning of the great spiritual night of humanity," because "blessed is he who has beheld these things in the land of mortals; but he who is uninitiated, both in the sacred rites and in the participation, does not share the same fate, and perishes beneath the misty and moldy darkness." (Homeric Hymn to Demeter, verses 480-482) "Blessed is he who has these things among the mortals on earth; the uninitiated, however, and the participant has no like fortune, and is lost beneath the cloudy and moldy darkness."
