I followed the same desire to study, and I had no other thought in my mind than letters. There is much talk (and rightly so) about Tara Westover's Educated. Almost two centuries earlier, the so-called "first Greek prose writer" recorded in a moving autobiographical work her own struggle to "become educated" and shape herself as she wished.

Christos Kytheriotis, author. The work of this daughter from Zakynthos is scarce, almost entirely unpublished; only in 1881 did her autobiography see the light of day. As we are now getting to know the mothers of Kalvos and Solomos from Zakynthos, both of whom deeply marked their children's souls, the memory of Elisabeth Martinengou will help us enter the right atmosphere.

She was born in 1801 and died in 1832. Her autobiography, which she had written shortly before her death, not only provides testimony but is also a piece of literature of rare quality, one of the purest adornments of our modern literature.
