Nothing can be taken for granted anymore. The pandemic has made the divide between an inner world under siege from all sides and the difficult problems that political power must solve even more pronounced.

We are forced to reconsider even our most entrenched beliefs about the "inherent limits" of the political. We are called to rethink from scratch the fundamental categories we have become accustomed to using to decode an increasingly complex world.

I would be happy if this book, which was born during a prolonged lockdown, contributes to the production of some new thoughts, reservations, and challenges to "common sense," in the same way that so many people and so many other books contributed to its unexpected birth.
