Baglamas

Solist Baglamas PRO-1

The baglamas or baglamadaki is a nocturnal musical instrument, like the tamboura, an evolution of the ancient Greek pandoura and a miniature version of the bouzouki, used in Greek folk music. As a rule, it has three double strings. The sound of the baglamas is sharp.
Each string is tuned one octave higher than the corresponding one on the bouzouki. The reason the baglamas has smaller dimensions is that players could easily hide it, as it was prohibited during the Ottoman rule and later under dictatorship.
