Toe Separator and Foot Problems:

The "bunion," or "hallux valgus," is a bony bump at the base of the big toe that causes this toe to shift toward the others. This misalignment of the toes can lead to pain due to pressure or arthritis, and may also generate a corn. Treatment options include pain relievers, special protective pads, and special shoe inserts. It is also recommended to choose spacious and comfortable shoes and to avoid high heels.

Friction causes the hardening and thickening of dead skin to protect the area. Corns, depending on their type, may be cone-shaped and appear in areas that do not bear much body weight or may have a hard texture and appear anywhere there is friction. Corns typically develop due to ill-fitting shoes and often smooth out when the intense friction stops.

When toe muscles are not properly balanced, painful problems can occur. While some people have a predisposition to hammer toe, it is often caused by inappropriate, overly tight shoes. Hammer toe is the downward displacement of the middle joint of the toe, causing the toes to look raised at the point near the foot. In most cases, the issue improves with the right shoes and with special insoles and pads.
