Developed by Rankin/Bass, based on characters created by Tobin "Ted" Wolf, the ThunderCats was one of the most successful animated series of the 1980s, with three seasons totaling 130 episodes. The series follows the adventures of a group of humanoid felines surviving on the planet Thundera, in a new planet called Third Earth, facing various dangers and their greatest enemy, the mummified demonic wizard Mumm-Ra.

Tygra is one of the most powerful and multifaceted ThunderCats; he is the scientist of the team as well as an experienced architect. He is also the deputy leader of the team, taking command in situations where Lion-O cannot. He is responsible for the creation and construction of the Cat's Lair, the heroes' home on Third Earth, including all computing systems, electrical grids, and power generators.

His weapon is the Bolo Whip, which he wraps around himself when he wants to become invisible. It also emits energy blasts.
