The work examines the ideological background of politics in Greece, particularly the phenomenon of nationalism and its impact on public opinion and the attitudes of political leaders towards international issues and national claims, from the end of World War II to the military dictatorship of 1967.

It explains how repeated public mobilizations for the so-called 'national issues' reproduced a political culture that combined elements of clientelistic tradition and religious faith with stereotypes of national identity and otherness - elements that have survived into the 21st century.
