The Smart-UPS 1500 Line-Interactive 1500VA 980W with 6 IEC Power Plugs by APC is a Tower UPS. It has 6 outlets of type IEC (such as those for computer power supplies) as well as an input and output for an ethernet cable, protecting devices connected to it, such as a router (provided their power is connected to a UPS or surge protector). Its operation is (VI) Line-Interactive which continuously adjusts the output voltage through an automatic voltage regulator, protecting against voltage fluctuations and power outages. The battery can last for 28 minutes with half load or 6 minutes with full load (when the connected devices draw half or maximum current that the UPS can provide respectively). It provides pure sine wave power which is suitable for sensitive devices (e.g. medical equipment) and is preferred for devices with active PFC protection (e.g. computers).

The battery life on my Mac is about 30-35 minutes depending on the task. It frequently performs checks (about every other day) and makes a buzzing noise that is slightly annoying. When the power is cut off, the noise is moderate, but if you don't have the alarm on mute, it will drive you crazy! Wonderful UPS from a huge company, get it with your eyes closed.
