Mr. Morley was not in the best mood at breakfast time. He complained about the bacon, wondered why the coffee looked like liquid mud, and commented that the cereal was inedible.
Mr. Morley was a small man with a determined expression and a quarrelsome chin. His sister, who kept his household, was a sturdy woman who resembled a female grenadier. She cast a thoughtful glance at her brother and asked if he had been forced to bathe again with cold water.
Somewhat reluctantly, Mr. Morley answered no. Then he glanced at his newspaper and remarked that the government seemed to be moving from incompetence to undeniable stupidity! Miss Morley replied in her deep voice that what he was saying was unacceptable!
As a woman, she had always believed that whichever government happened to be in power produced clearly useful work. She then asked her brother to explain why the current government's policy was ineffective, foolish, idiotic, and ultimately suicidal!
After Mr. Morley answered her in detail on each point, he poured a second cup of the awful coffee and finally let out what was really weighing on him.
