Description
But, with the setting of the sun, I will go to Vasileiou. K.G. Karyotakis
The Parisian Editions present the third volume of the series "Vasileiou Library," which consists of carefully selected titles from Greek and world literature.
An emblematic figure of the tumultuous 19th century, far from the most famous philhellene and one of the leading poets of the English language, Lord Byron, who was adored in his time as an idol, is the embodiment and epitome of romanticism itself.
The monograph by Stelios Sperantsas published in 1924, on the centenary of the death of the great philhellene and poet, provides a brief but highly comprehensive introduction to the life and work of the man who stamped his actions on his time like few others and continues to captivate the attention of specialist scholars as well as the imagination of the broader public even today.
The new enriched edition includes an appendix with poems by Byron translated by older and contemporary writers and translators. The edition is complemented by the monumental speech of Kostis Palamas for the centenary of the poet's death.
“VASELIOU LIBRARY”
About 100 years ago, a dynamic publisher established a business that was to change the Athenian publishing landscape of the early 20th century and to establish itself in the consciousness of the Greek reading public as one of the major factors of the cultural life at that time. It was Georgios Vasileiou (1888-1932). Hundreds of classic works of Greek and world literature were presented in his consistently refined and aesthetically pleasing editions.
Today, as inheritors of a very rich archive, a tangible proof of what a truly enlightened publisher achieved, the Parisian Editions inaugurate the series “Vasileiou Library.” By once again delivering to readers a selection of the top works of world literature, texts of timeless wisdom and beauty, we invite you to travel with us, guided by their everlasting light in challenging but inviting times.
