This book is mainly aimed at students of the School of Chemical Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens who are following the direction of Inorganic Industries. In a more advanced form, it is taught to students in the 9th semester of Chemical Engineering in the elective course "Inorganic Industries". It is a basic bibliographic source for students of the interdisciplinary postgraduate program "Science and Technology of Materials" at the National Technical University of Athens who choose the course "Technology of Structural Materials". 

Most chapters of the book are also useful not only for students of Civil Engineering, Science and Technology of Materials, and other related specialties in Universities and Technological Educational Institutes, but also for teachers, researchers, and engineers who are involved in the Science and Technology of Cement and are active in the field of structural materials and structural works. The fourteen chapters focus on cement and the material is presented in such a way as to balance scientific data with technological developments that govern its production. Emphasis is placed on issues related to standardization and new types of cements for specialized uses, as well as environmental protection and energy and raw material conservation in the cement industry. 

Finally, reference is made to concrete, which focuses on the effect of cement quality on the properties and durability of concrete, the use of industrial by-products as a fourth component of concrete, as well as the chemical causes of concrete deterioration.
