This edition attempts to record the work of the New Democracy government during the period 1990-1993 and is carried out with the maturity and, as much as possible, the objectivity that the passage of time and the dramatic experiences of recent years provide.

The enormous problem facing our country today has its roots thirty years ago when PASOK first came to power in the early 1980s. At that time, the choice was made to improve the standard of living of the people through the increase of public debt with deficits that financed consumer spending, as well as the choice of a suffocating embrace of the economy by the State, which ultimately drained its competitiveness.

In the post-war history of the country, however, no one had consciously followed a policy of creating deficits until then.
