The Twenty Studies for Piano were composed between 1991 and 2012. Their final shape into Book 1 and Book 2 was determined by the music itself during their composition. Book 1 (Studies 1-10) had a dual purpose - to explore a variety of rhythms, textures, and piano techniques. At the same time, it aimed to serve as a teaching tool for improving piano playing. In these two ways, Book 1 succeeded very well. I learned a lot about the piano, and during the process of learning the music, I became a better player. New works emerged and disrupted the work on the Studies for several years. Perhaps because of this, when I resumed working on the Studies, I found that the music was following a new path. Although I had settled the issues of piano technique for myself in Book 1, the music in Book 2 quickly began to suggest a series of new adventures in harmony and structure. In this way, Books 1 and 2 together propose a true journey that encompasses a wide range of musical and technical ideas. Ultimately, the Studies are intended to be appreciated not only by the general audience but mainly by those who have the ability and patience to learn, play, and interpret the music themselves.
