These studies are structurally simple. Each one is based on a characteristic form or mechanical problem, and although the influences of Bach and Scarlatti are evident, their harmonic coloring and formal variety are modern and suitable for the piano.

The success of these particular studies prompted Cramer to write other methods, including "Anweisung das Pianoforte zu spielen" (Instructions for Playing the Piano), which includes rules for fingering and the use of the pedal. Influenced by the dictates of the time, he also began to publish individual studies under a distinct name, although these did not reach the usefulness and artistic value of the "Studio per il pianoforte".
