Few months after we read a book, we remember almost nothing about it - perhaps not even the title. What we remember for a long time afterward is whether we enjoyed reading it. Essentially, whenever we urge someone to buy a book we have read, we remind ourselves that we enjoyed its company for as long as it lasted - and we felt a slight loss when we finished reading it. We enjoyed it.
Guided by enjoyment, without Procrustean prejudices, Petros Tatsopoulos swims in the open sea of reading, among all kinds of books - easy books and difficult books, entertaining and revealing books, intimidating and comforting, ominous and promising - that have kept him good company over the last seven years. The rich illustrations of the volume assist in paying tribute to reading and in creating a book about books.
The book reviews belong to the sections:
- I was there too (biographies, memoirs)
- Revolution and counter-revolution (political texts)
- Crime without punishment (literature with a detective plot)
- With a sideways glance (authors, philosophy, science, religion, ethics)
- Weeping and laughing (Greek and foreign prose)
All the texts were published in the newspaper "Ta Nea", except for the one concerning the book "The Invention of the Restaurant," which was published in the magazine "Eu Zin."
