Spring has arrived in Bon Temps, and for the telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse, it will prove to be a season full of revelations—revelations that will bring significant changes to her life.

Following her well-known tendency to be perpetually caught up in trouble, Sookie witnesses the arson attack at Merlotte’s Bar, where she works. Given that Sam Merlotte is a known shapeshifter, suspicions immediately fall on those who oppose the existence of shapeshifters in the area. However, Sookie has other suspicions and, in collaboration with Sam, will uncover the culprit and the twisted motive behind the attack.

Her attention, however, is focused elsewhere. Although she doesn’t "read" vampires, Sookie knows her lover, Eric, and his "child," Pam— and realizes that they are conspiring to get rid of the vampire who currently controls them. Gradually, she becomes entangled in this adventure as well—a situation much more complicated than she had imagined.

Once again caught up in the political affairs of the vampire world, Sookie will learn that she is just as much a pawn as any other human—and that a new queen has entered the game...
