HIVE was first introduced at the largest board game exhibition for the public, "Spiel Essen," where it was voted "Best in Show." Since then, it has won many significant awards worldwide, culminating in the coveted MENSA award, The IQ Society: "Mensa Select Winner." It has become a reference point in its category and is played in most countries around the world. The inventor of the game is the British of Greek descent, John Yianni.
The goal of the game is to be the first to completely surround the opponent's queen using a series of insect pieces. Because each insect moves in the game's hive in a unique way similar to how insects move in nature, Hive has often been described as "nature's chess." However, it has simpler rules, does not require a board, and also has an additional third dimension in the movement of the pieces.
It contains 22 pieces, instructions in Greek and English, and a beautiful bag for easy transportation anywhere.
