“Is the key to a more fulfilling and rich career not grand plans but their simplification? Paul Jarvis left the traditional business world when he realized that dedicating his time to a large, stressful, and well-known company was not the kind of success he was interested in. He quickly discovered how beneficial it would be to leave behind the outdated hierarchical structure of large companies with their constant demands for more productivity and greater growth on an annual basis.

His book, Company of One, approaches the topic of running a successful business focusing on improvement rather than growth with freshness and originality. Paul Jarvis shows us how a small and streamlined structure can provide us with the freedom to pursue more meaningful pleasures in life and help us escape the headaches that unavoidably accompany the grueling everyday life of traditional growth-focused orientations. Learn how to set up your business, how to determine the revenue you desire, how to deal with unexpected setbacks, how to ensure your customers are satisfied, and, of course, how to achieve all this on your own terms.

Why manage your business as if you were a machine when you’re not? Paul Jarvis’s book, Company of One, presents another way. If you’ve ever wondered how to make your business work for you – and not the other way around – this book is for you.”

Chris Guillebeau, author of the bestselling books Side Hustle and The $100 Startup

“Jarvis makes a persuasive case for improvement over growth in a business. An essential read for any entrepreneur who prioritizes quality of life over material wealth.” Cal Newport, author of the bestselling book Deep Work

“Your business can thrive with less! Company of One is an engaging, informative guide to managing a successful, minimalist business.” Joshua Fields Millburn, host of the podcast The Minimalists

“Paul Jarvis beautifully illustrates that the small format is now winning the game. It doesn't matter how many employees you have (or even how many customers you serve). What matters is who you collaborate with. This is a revolutionary idea for our times: build your business around your own values. And that’s no small feat. This book is a treasure.” Mitch Joel, founder of Six Pixels Group and author of the books Six Pixels of Separation and Ctrl Alt Delete

  • In the era of the internet, service provision can be done anywhere and anytime. So, this book can provide useful guidance even for the Greek audience. It has several sections that are worth using as methodologies for someone who is starting to build their business now.

Good book but not suitable for Greek or even European reality. It is written for the American economy and specifically for those involved in programming, marketing, and computer-based services.
For example, it mentions many examples of 'freelancers' companies that make clean amounts of around 500,000.00.
Such numbers do not play here, not even for medium-sized businesses.
Certainly, it has useful information, but most of the information cannot be applied in Greece due to the economy and market mentality.
I do not recommend it unless you have plenty of time. Also, it is very expensive for what it offers.
