Review this product
  • It is well known that this is by far the best 2mm lead holder for sketching. I own every pencil that has come out on the market since the mid-90s, when I was studying technical drawing, so I can confirm it myself. The best leads from my experience are the Red Staedtler and the TK 9071 graphite leads from Faber Castell. It is also good for writing, even though it wasn't designed for that, because it is comfortable and the leads last much longer than a wooden pencil, plus they are easier to sharpen (just don't oversharpen them, folks! Always pull and check before you make it too sharp, because the lead will break and so will your nerves!)

P.S. For a sharpener, choose the Staedtler 502 (we used to call it 'the bell' back in the day) or the small 2mm sharpeners, either from KUM or M+R, which are the best, or Faber Castell. Avoid unknown brands, the best ones cost 0.20 to 0.30 cents and it's definitely worth investing in the Staedtler 502, because it lasts MUCH longer (almost forever), and it can produce 2 lead sizes (short sturdy, long sharp). You can easily get by with the small cheap ones too; if you get 2-3, they will also last a very long time.

The pencil also has a sharpener in the button, but it's clearly for very emergency situations, e.g., you've gone out and forgot to bring a sharpener with your pencil. That's because it doesn't provide the best sharpening, plus it fills the pencil and your hands with a lot of graphite dust.
