The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), in an effort to contribute to the study of the history of the KKE for the period 1950 - 1968, publishes the minutes of the 6th Plenary of the KKE Central Committee from 1956. The 6th Plenary Assembly took place on March 11-12, 1956, in Romania and was a critically important event in relation to the course of the KKE.

The 6th Plenary was convened at the initiative of the Committee of 6 communist parties of the socialist states that hosted Greek political refugees. The Committee was established during the 20th Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) (February 14-26, 1956). The main topic of the Plenary was designated as the presentation of the Committee’s findings regarding reports from KKE officials that had been sent to the respective parties and contained allegations of "abnormal internal party regime" in the functioning of the KKE.

Key issues regarding the KKE's strategy and the struggle of the Democratic Army of Greece (DSE) from 1946-1949 were at the forefront. The Plenary approved the "Announcement of the Committee of 6 Communist Parties" as well as the adoption of organizational measures, including the removal of Nikos Zachariadis from the position of Secretary of the KKE Central Committee and from membership in the Central Committee.

The publication includes: Announcement of the Committee of 6 Communist Parties, speeches by KKE officials who participated in the Plenary, and other materials from the Plenary. The publication is accompanied by an introduction from the Political Bureau of the KKE Central Committee regarding the historical context of the time, the developments in Greece and the international communist movement, as well as the course of the KKE from 1949 until the convening of the 6th Plenary in 1956.
