Users find that it does the job for digitizing analog video and appreciate its value for money and build quality. It’s considered suitable for amateur use and transferring old tapes to a computer. However, the included software is seen as outdated and unreliable, and the conversion quality doesn’t satisfy everyone.
My use/experience concerns transferring movies from VHS to a computer. I achieved what I wanted, however, I must make some observations regarding its functionality.
Firstly, the device comes with a mini-CD which surprisingly does not contain any drivers...!! Inside, you will find an outdated video playback and recording program that you should never use. Based on my experience, it is considered useless.
The lack of drivers is probably not a significant issue for someone who uses a modern operating system (e.g. Win10+) as the device is automatically recognized. It is likely to be detected as a camera or microphone, but this should not discourage you as the main goal is for the computer to recognize it!
Instead of the program on the mini-CD, it would be better to download the free OBS software that was suggested below. I cannot know how accessible it is for a beginner. It certainly requires time, effort, and experimentation to achieve the desired result (note that selecting PAL 60 solved my problem).
One particular peculiarity of the device regarding its connectivity caught my attention. When I used SCART/RCA cables to connect it to the VCR, it did not transmit a signal. It may sound paradoxical, but the solution was found only when I used a cable with 6 male RCAs and also a SCART adapter to which I could connect the RCAs. I would advise you to consider this if your VHS device only has a SCART output. It is not expensive.
In summary, for someone who wants immediate/fast results (plug and play) or for a beginner with computers, I would not recommend it as it requires a small process.
However, if you have some basic experience with software/hardware and find it at a reasonable price in a store near you, I consider it a fair solution.
Note: Let's not forget that VHS tapes lose quality over the years and with frequent use. If the quality of the result is not satisfactory, then 99% of the time it is due to the VHS tapes themselves or even the VCR in some cases.
Very good for its price. The video resolution is acceptable only for amateur use. Build quality and ergonomics: very good
First, I will mention the negative aspect, the reason why I give it 4 stars: the software that comes with the encoder is unacceptable.
1) It only comes with a disc and is not distributed ANYWHERE on the internet in 2021 (which forced me to install it through another old system).
2) The software has MANY issues, it saves videos in an outdated format, 640x480 resolution (and I know that the input image is low resolution but it is analog) creating problems with the aspect ratio of my camera (720x576).
3) The files it saves are corrupted after about 90% of their duration, I had to re-record 2 tapes that were 3 hours long because of this.
4) In one case, the sound stopped recording after about 5 minutes.
All these issues are avoided if you simply use other software. The device is plug and play on Windows 10, recognized as a camera and a microphone. Personally, I recommend OBS, which is top-notch and free. Select the device as input in the cameras and microphones.
Do not waste your time with the distributed software. Even the "Camera" application in Windows will do a better job.
Otherwise, the device is quite capable as hardware.

Tragically poor conversion, as tragically low as its price.
