The present essay is an attempt to draw the main conclusions of a journey spanning 200 years through the presentation and interpretation of historical events.
The first part, "The Great Idea," describes the long Greek revolution against Ottoman rule that begins in 1821 and concludes in 1919-1920. And if for a moment it seemed it would have a happy ending, almost simultaneously, in 1922, it would lead to a great disillusionment.
