The Cultural Foundation of the Piraeus Bank Group (PIOP), as part of the anniversary activities of Piraeus Bank for the 200 years since the Revolution of 1821, presents the theatrical performance "Friendly Society. The Brotherhood behind the Revolution" directed by Ioli Andreadi, with an original script by Ioli Andreadi and Aris Asproulis, based on research by the two author-researchers.
The play combines historical facts with fiction, unfolding on stage the melancholic thread that runs through the lives of the founders of the Friendly Society, from the crazy and passionate vision of national independence to the harsh and solitary experience of personal betrayal.
This is the twelfth play by the two authors, which brings to the forefront the Friendly Society, this significant organization created for the preparation of the Greeks' struggle for independence.
With this work, the unknown lives of the three members of the Friendly Society emerge, but also something deeper, purer, and more essential. The "Sacred Love" comes to light, a concept of romantic insight initially taken from Alexandros Ypsilantis, which permeates all the mystics of the Struggle.
The emergence of this shocking idea from the spiritual underground of our nation to the surface of our theatrical life is exclusively due to the two authors.
