Kikuyu Pennisetum clandestinum grass seeds produce a dense, light-green lawn. The grass spreads quickly through rhizomes and needs frequent mowing to limit the buildup of dry leaves. It has low water and fertilizer requirements, but needs at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.
It is resistant to drought, foot traffic, salinity, and disease. When temperatures drop below 4–5 °C, it may turn yellow and green up again in spring. Spring is the preferred time for sowing, once the soil has started to warm up. Watering should be deep and less frequent than for other varieties. The recommended mowing height is 3–5 cm.
