Zana Muhsen, raised in Birmingham to Yemeni parents, faced a nightmarish reality when, at the age of 15 and 13, she traveled with her sister for a vacation in North Yemen. Instead of enjoying their vacation, they discovered they had literally been sold into marriage and that their living conditions were more difficult than they could have imagined. They were forced to adapt to a completely foreign life, without running water, with walls made of dung, frequent abuses, and the painful process of childbirth in bare spaces with only elderly women present. After eight years of despair and humiliation, Zana managed to escape, but her sister remains trapped, possibly never being able to leave the country where she has spent more than half of her life. This is the updated version of Zana's account of her experiences.
