A true story - a tribute to life, the acceptance of grief, and the healing power of nature.

Just days after Raynor learns that Moth, the man she has been married to for 32 years, is in the final stages of an incurable illness, they lose their home and every means of livelihood. With nothing left but a short amount of time, they make the brave decision to walk 630 miles along the rugged path that runs along the southwest coast of England, from Somerset to Dorset, through Devon and Cornwall.

With only the essentials in their backpacks, they daily traverse a wild landscape of cliffs, sea, and sky. With every step, every encounter, and every challenge, their journey evolves into a quest for self-discovery.

The Salt Path redefines the concept of home, showing how, when it is lost, it can be "rebuilt" and redefined in the most unexpected ways.

More than 80 weeks on the Sunday Times bestseller list

What they said about the book: “A beautiful, contemplative, lyrical story about homelessness and human strength and resilience.” -Guardian

“The Salt Path is a story you can't put down, a temple to peace… It will change you forever.” –Wall Street Journal

“An astonishing narrative about two people who pulled themselves up from the depths of despair, crossed some of the most dramatic landscapes in England searching for solutions to their problems, and discovered themselves along the way.” –Independent

“The Salt Path initially seems like the ultimate odyssey of a couple of outcasts, except that their journey wasn't any kind of life decision. What it primarily conveys to the reader is human endurance and the rejuvenating power of nature. At least it motivated me to scrape the dried mud off my hiking boots and hit the trails again. I hope it has the same effect on millions more.” –The Times

Raynor Winn, after completing the path along the southwest coast, continues to regularly hike long distances and write about nature, homelessness, and wild camping. She lives in Cornwall with her husband Moth and their dog Monty. The Salt Path is her first book. It has been translated into 19 languages and has sold over half a million copies worldwide.

"Let's go for a walk."

It was a silly thing to say, but I said it anyway. "Go for a walk?" "Yes, let's go for a walk." Could Moth do it? It was just a coastal path, after all; it wouldn't be that hard, we would go slowly, step by step, following a map. I desperately needed a map, something to show me the way. So why not? It couldn't be that difficult. The possibility of walking the entire coastline from Minehead in Somerset, through North Devon, Cornwall, and South Devon, all the way to Poole in Dorset seemed almost achievable. Yet, at that moment, the idea of walking over hills, beaches, rivers, and headlands felt as distant and unlikely as stepping out from under the stairs and opening the front door. Something someone else would do, not us. On the other hand, we had rebuilt a ruin from scratch, learned to level with a plumb line, raised two children, defended ourselves in court, in front of judges and expensive lawyers, so why not?
