It has two holes that fill with mud from the point where you nail it. If you want to place it in another spot, you have to wash it and let it dry for 1-2 days. I would say it is only suitable for permanent placement in an indoor potted plant that is watered with a cup. It is not suitable for outdoor use (not waterproof) and it is not suitable for sampling multiple different points.
As for quality... it's a celebration and a half. I applied a little extra force when nailing it and it fell apart.
