The 4½ Friends consist of three boys, a girl, and a dog. Kale, the founder and leader of the detective agency "Kale and Co.", the twin brothers Steffi and Karsten, Friedel, and their dog, Pentamorfo, get involved in various adventures as they try to solve mysteries and strange cases.

Weird things are happening in the orchard neighborhood: At night, someone steals strawberries from an orchard, two days later, jars of strawberry jam appear in front of the door, someone secretly paints fences and cuts the grass. When the special variety of cucumber grown by Uncle Werner, the "Wild Hilda," also goes missing, things are clear to Kale: This is a case that the 4½ Friends must take on.
