The texts that make up this volume are equal research attempts of access or "approaches" to the field of patristic thought and hagiography. The "ink" that captures the theological intelligence of the Fathers does not oppose or function autonomously from the "blood" that symbolizes the experience of the saints. Just as even the most uneducated saints embody with their lives a tangible version of the ecclesiastical faith, so do the Fathers prove true to the extent that their texts preserve or translate - with the necessary fidelity and freedom required for a successful translation - the salvific experience of the body. Ultimately, if the knot that ties the two dimensions is salvation, the existing framework that encompasses the various terms or versions of this relationship is ecclesiastical. Indeed, it is the community that honors in the faces of the saints, men and women, the incarnate and historically accomplished existential and spiritual destiny to which it aspires. And it is the same community that recognizes in the texts of the Fathers the prerequisite enlightenment that allows them to interpret accurately or even defend whenever necessary the salvific encounter of faith that unites all members.
