HAMLET is one of William Shakespeare's most popular theatrical works.
The central character of the story is young Prince Hamlet, who shares the same name as his father, the King of Denmark, who died unexpectedly. The young Hamlet's uncle, Claudius, ascends to the throne and marries his sister-in-law, Gertrude. Hamlet is dissatisfied with his uncle's rise to the throne, which he considers much inferior and unworthy compared to his father.
One night, a ghost resembling the late King Hamlet appears and reveals that his father was murdered by Claudius and commands Hamlet to seek revenge. Hamlet plans to expose Claudius's guilt by pretending to be mad. Horatio, Hamlet's trusted friend, witnesses this, and Hamlet decides to avenge his father's death. He prepares to kill Claudius but finds him praying and considers that if he kills him at that moment, Claudius will go to heaven, which he does not deserve.
However, when Hamlet leaves, Claudius reveals that he was not praying with much devotion for anything. Hamlet goes to confront his mother. Hearing a noise behind a curtain, he points his sword and accidentally kills Polonius, who was eavesdropping. fearing for his safety, Claudius sends Hamlet to England along with Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, with orders to have him killed.
During the journey, Hamlet uncovers the conspiracy and leads to the deaths of the two would-be assassins. Their ship falls into the hands of pirates, but Hamlet pays a ransom and is ultimately released. Grief-stricken, Ophelia goes mad and drowns in a river. From France, Laertes, Polonius's son and Ophelia's brother, returns filled with rage. Claudius persuades Laertes that Hamlet is responsible for Polonius’s death, and with Hamlet’s return to Denmark, bets that Hamlet can defeat Laertes in a duel.
