For a printer, it's fine. Fast and economical. But for a scanner, it doesn't live up to its price and features. Many problems with the software, not easy to connect, doesn't scan multiple documents from the document feeder. It's used in a clinic and unfortunately doesn't help with its functionality.
The software application (HP smart) that comes with this specific but also many other similar HP products is the worst software I have worked with so far. It freezes, disconnects for no reason, and overall it is excessively difficult to use, resulting in ruining the entire consumer experience. On the positive side, it is economical in terms of ink, but be careful because if it remains unused for a while, it starts causing problems with the print heads. Lastly, there are significant delays and issues with HP's telephone support. It is good for documents but mediocre for photos. With this application, I would say it is not worth its money.
The printer is excellent in quality and speed. I deduct two stars because, due to non-use for a month, the color head got clogged and I couldn't find a replacement on the market. HP sent me to a store, the store to Infoquest, Infoquest to HP, and so on. If this is considered reasonable support for a machine worth 300+ euros, then it's probably better to get a similar one from another company that has support in the Greek market.
2023-12 UPDATE: Eventually, a replacement head was found at Cosmodata for about 35 euros. The printer is fully functional again, but now I print a test color page every week to avoid the same issue.
We have purchased about 7 units for the company I work for. I personally have one at home. They were bought with the intention of saving on consumables - and in that aspect, the printer is excellent. You forget that it needs ink. Another positive aspect is that it supports ethernet.
However, the positives end there. The printer freezes after some time of operation - frozen screen and does not accept print jobs. It only recovers by unplugging the power. It has happened to us with several units. HP "suggests that we call when we have a problem," which is impossible for a company.
The printer occasionally prints blank pages for no apparent reason. It is rare but it happens.
Out of all the models of Hp, this particular one is the most failed. We bought it for our office, considering the economy in ink, but it disappointed us greatly. From the first day of installation, the problems started. When connected to the network, it did not appear as active. When it did appear as active and you tried to print, it would cancel half of the prints on its own, stop printing, and freeze (which it still does). You have to unplug it, leave it for a while, and then reconnect it. Other times, while printing, it stops and all the lights start flashing! Again, you have to unplug it and then reconnect it. It does not print image files, it freezes, and you have to unplug it (note that when you try to turn it off from its button, it does not turn off) and then reconnect it. Upon reconnection, it may print a couple of black pages on its own and then go back to normal. Its scanner is unacceptable! Incredibly slow and not functional at all (compared to the Hp Pro MFP M277 dw model, which has an incredible scanner and we would not change it if its spare part, which had a high repair value, did not break). The printer was purchased about three months ago from a well-known store, to which we immediately addressed for a replacement, but they wanted to take it back, check it, and inform us. We immediately contacted HP, which in our daily conversations (with their technical department) tried to fix the problems and eventually, since nothing could be done, replaced it with a new one and took the other one back. With the installation of the new multifunction device (always with the help of HP's technical department), the same problems started again but with less frequency. For a machine worth 350-400 euros and supposedly new technology, this is unacceptable. The only advantage it has is the economy in printing (due to its liquid inks). Otherwise, I would not recommend it to anyone, especially not to companies.
It does not scan thicker notebooks or small books from the glass surface. In older multifunction machines I had, the back part would lift up so you could scan slightly bulkier objects. In this machine, it broke on the first try and stayed in my hand. After a while, the automatic document feeder stopped functioning properly and started "chewing" the pages and unable to pull them. All of this happened within a month. If I only wanted a printer, I wouldn't have paid so much money.
It connects very easily. After 1000 prints that I made, it left some gaps in some prints.
Scanning: Its scanning is slow. You cannot do double-sided scanning. You have to take it out and then put it back from the other side. The feeder basically does not support double-sided scanning. In other words, if you have a document that is printed on both sides, you have to remove the single-sided pages first and then the double-sided ones.
Printing: Let's move on to printing. It has the option of 1-1 and 1-2. However, since the feeder does not support double-sided scanning, you cannot make copies from the dublex feeder. One solution is to print the single-sided pages first and then the double-sided ones and put them in the feeder to make a 1-2 copy.
When you now want to make 10 copies and you want to print them back to back from the feeder, you do not have the option to staple the copies. In other words, it will print the 1-2 page 10 times, then the 3-4 page 10 times, and then you will have to separate the pages one by one.
In terms of economy, after 1000 copies, the black level has dropped to 1/5. When the black cartridge is finished, I will come back to tell you how many copies one bottle lasted.
It has a defect after 35 days of use, I used it for about 7 to 8 days because I had COVID and they won't replace it because 30 days have passed. The machine barely printed 30 pages and the dealership tells me to replace it with one that has been checked by the factory, meaning it had a defect and they repaired it. They will try to see if they will give me ink, ridiculous. With this printer, you can't remove the ink, I have to buy new ones they told me. I don't think I will buy anything from HP again.
The machine is flawless! You print without even thinking about the ink. And if you do think about it, you still say it's cheap, so you continue not to think about it.
