Description

College graduates struggle to cope with the real world. Music offers refuge in this modern manga with an American attitude.

Meiko Inoue is a recent college grad working as an office lady in a job she hates. Her boyfriend Shigeo is permanently crashing at her apartment because his job as a freelance illustrator doesn't pay enough for rent. And her parents in the country keep sending her boxes of veggies that just rot in her fridge. Straddling the line between her years as a student and the rest of her life, Meiko struggles with the feeling that she's just not cut out to be a part of the real world.

Review this product
  • Paper quality
  • Was it easy to read?
  • Was it interesting enough?
  • I liked the writing style
  • I would read a book by the same author
  • Illustrations
  • I would recommend it for reading
  • Was it relatively interesting?
  • For me, Solanin is one of the less harsh/sad stories by Inio Asano, and I consider it a pretty good choice to read first among his works.

It is a slow burn story, grounded in reality, with many dialogues. Despite the unpleasant things it depicts at times, it maintains a wholesome and "positive" character throughout.

Personally, it's not one of my favorite works by the mangaka, but that doesn't say much when all his stories are so good.

This manga, created by the author Inio Asano, is a story in which many sudden things happen to a young girl and she tries to cope with the difficulties of her life. (They described it without any spoilers at all, so buy it, it's totally worth it.)

Personal, authentic, but unfortunately a bit boring. Not the author's best work!
